7ARESS supports awareness. It does not dispatch help and is not operated by any Algerian authority. In an emergency, always follow Civil Protection and local authority instructions.
What satellites cannot tell you
- Detections can be delayed by hours, because a satellite only sees a place when it passes overhead.
- Small fires, fires under tree canopy and fires under cloud can be missed entirely.
- Cloud and thick smoke block the sensors that detect heat.
- Industrial heat — especially Saharan gas flares — is detected and is not a wildfire.
- A detection is a hot pixel, not a mapped fire boundary. Distances are to a pixel centre.
Never travel towards a fire to look at it, and never rely on this platform to decide whether you are safe.
If you are near a fire
- Follow the instructions of Civil Protection and local authorities without delay.
- Close windows and doors. Breathe through a damp cloth if there is smoke.
- Report a fire to the authorities by telephone, not through this platform.
